Are you Interested in Holding a Food Drive?

Are you interested in holding a food drive but not sure how to get started or what to do?  Below are some helpful hints to make your food drive successful.

    • Choose a Leader Appoint a Food Drive Coordinator to organize, motivate and promote the food drive. This person will also be the contact person for All Faith’s staff.
    • Set Your Dates – set up beginning and end dates. Most food drives last two weeks, but your food drive can last long enough to suit your organization’s needs. It depends on the number of employees, members or customers who are participating.
  • Select a List of the items to Donate  – All items should be nonperishable, i,e, boxed bagged and canned foods. These are the top 5 non-perishables, items All Faith distributes:
  • Canned Meat Products
  • Peanut Butter
  • Cereal
  • Rice and Pasta
  • Beans
  • Infant Formula
  • Canned Fruits & Vegetables

All food items collected should be nonperishable, i.e. bagged, boxed and canned food items.  Food items in glass containers are accepted, but please be careful in handling them.  It would be a good idea to separate the glass items from the canned and boxed items to prevent breakage.

  • Hang posters in high traffic areas, listing the dates of the food drive and drop-off locations.
  • Profile the food drive in your newsletter.
  • Send everyone an email and a shopping list.
  • Distribute fliers.
  • Broadcast your food on the PA system.
  • Put out tent cards in the lunchroom.
  • Put a stuffer in mailers, paychecks or direct mail pieces.

  • Hold a kick-off party
  • Give your food drive a theme, such as a Beach Party (kick-off your food drive with a luau and collect items like tuna shell-shaped pasta and canned pineapple)
  • Hold a food drive in conjunction with an organization-wide event, like a staff party convention. For Business

For Businesses

  • Exchange food for dress-down days.

  • Make a food drive part of a class project on hunger issues.
